Blending traditional with contemporary

“We wanted a kitchen space that married looks with hard-working practicality. With our De’Longhi range we have found the perfect cooker, the perfect partner.”

Discover the Modern Range Cooker

About the owners:  An ‘empty nester’ couple with adult children who visit to eat – often!

Project: A total overhaul of the old family kitchen, in a four-bedroom 1920s detached home. A large space, the aim was to make it an inviting place to cook, all year round.

Kitchen budget: £20k

Style: A blend of traditional and contemporary achieved through freestanding units, professional stainless steel kitchen units, balanced with the warmth of a vintage Welsh dresser, a handmade island, wooden Meneghini fridge and open shelving.

Colour scheme: Grey, white, zinc and steel plus wood finishes.

De'Longhi range cooker: Modern, twin cavity, dual fuel (gas hob and two electric multifunction ovens including grill), 90cm wide, in stainless steel (Model  DTR 906 DF-1)

The challenge

We were determined to avoid ‘country cliches’ as well as faddish kitchen trends. The aim was to design timeless flexibility and, most importantly, a space that really prompted us to cook.

We wanted easy, open access to ingredients and equipment and most of all, a cooker that was capable of being the focus and very much the ‘engine’ of our entire cooking space.

We also sought the immediacy and instant control of a gas hob combined and the constant all-over heat that an electric oven provides. And any cooker had to be big enough to handle multi-course Sunday lunches for 6 adults or more.
